Techsploration Role Model
Female/non-binary Role Models who work in underrepresented STEM and Skilled Trades fields will facilitate a 1.25-hour hands-on/interactive workshop for a small group (6-8) of female/non-binary grade 9 students. Following this activity, additional groups of students will rotate through each role model’s station every 8-10 minutes (speed-learning) to get a quick glimpse into the other careers represented at this event.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
The volunteer will have the opportunity to introduce the next generation of workers to STEM and Skilled Trades careers, showcasing her/their own career, and providing mentorship to our youth. This will also provide promotion for the role model's employer.
How will the organization benefit?
Techsploration is a not-for-profit organization. Our youth benefit greatly from being introduced to careers they may not have ever considered, or even knew existed. The goal of Techsploration is to provide young women and non-binary youth in Grades 9 through 12 with opportunities to explore science, engineering, trades, and technology occupations, while creating awareness about the critical role of work in their lives. It also helps them understand the significance of high school math and science for their future careers.
