Street and Bar Outreach - AIDS Committee of Ottawa

There are 3 kinds of outreach we primarily engage in:
1) Occasional special events outreach, such as pride, winter pride and AIDS Awareness week
>typically this involves tabling, talking about sexual health and HIV information
2) Routine bar outreach
>typically involves talking about sexual health, HIV information and harm reduction
>tends to be specific to guys-into-guys / LGBTQIA+
3) Routine women centered outreach
> typically involves visiting specific community or care centres to engage folks about sexual health, HIV
info and other intersecting issues
Skills and values for effective volunteers:
– able to talk to many diverse people
– comfortable with the idea about talking about sex and drug-use (we provide training)
– not judgmental
– able to speak ENG or FR
– knowledgeable or willing to learn about HIV/HEPC
ACO General information:
To provide support, prevention, education and outreach services from an integrated anti-racism anti-oppression social justice framework that promotes the holistic wellbeing of those living with, affected by, impacted by and at risk of HIV/AIDS in Ottawa.
