CISOC is one of Ottawa’s most respected community-based interpretation and translation agencies. Established in 1993, the Cultural Interpretation Services for Our Communities is a registered charitable organization that strives to provide the highest quality interpretation and translation services in order to facilitate equitable access to health, legal, social, educational, community and other services to non-English- or non-French-speaking clients.
We are seeking language interpreters in the following languages: Afar; Amharic; Bengali; Burmese; Cambodian; Cantonese; Dari; Haitian Creole; Dinka; French; Inuktitut; Italian; Karen; Kirundi; Mandarin; Nuer; Oromo; Pashto; Portuguese; Spanish; Swahili; Tigrigna; Turkish; Ukrainian; Vietnamese.

Qualifications for Interpreters:
· Complete fluency, oral and written in English and other language is essential
· Strong organizational and administrative skills
· Strong communication skills both written and oral
· Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including tact and discretion when dealing with clients
· Must be able to complete a 70-hrs online training course and defend a two-hrs written exam
· Must have ability to work independently

Volunteers will benefit by receiving the necessary training and by empowering them to assist other members of their community. We are currently seeking language interpreters in Ottawa; we offer volunteer interpreters an honorarium of $25.00 per hour.

CISOC will benefit by having sufficient resources to assist members of our communities access services in their own language.
