Twice Upon a Time gives free books to kids who might not otherwise be able to afford them. We are seeking volunteers to operate our free children’s bookstores. Consider volunteering with us if you are:
*a reader
*someone with an enthusiastic and welcoming spirit
*interested in working with children up to age 12
*available from 4pm on weekdays or on the weekends for 2 hours at a time
*interested in making a difference in communities in need
Applicants will be required to obtain a clear police records check suitable for working with the vulnerable sector. We provide a letter for the police department.
We work in a variety of locations including Overbrook Community Centre (Wednesdays, Saturdays), BGC on McArthur Ave (Wednesdays), and other locations.
At the pop-up locations, we assemble a selection of children’s books, and families and children drop by and select a book to take home. We help them choose a book they would enjoy. We believe in the importance of book ownership, as children reinforce their literacy skills by reading and re-reading their favourite books. In some of our locations, we also provide a story time to children, in English and French.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
Volunteering with Twice Upon a Time will give you a chance to work with children and families, promoting literacy and the love of reading. You will be helping putting books in the hands of children who need them. Volunteering is fun and rewarding, seeing the joy on the face of the children we serve. In some locations we also provide a story time and this lets you channel your inner librarian! It is great fun to read aloud to children who may not be used to this wonderful activity.
How will the organization benefit?
At Twice Upon a Time, we love our volunteers! We are a completely volunteer run organization, and could not function without our wonderful volunteers. Our volunteers run our ‘pop-up’ operations, pick and deliver books, sort them, help with our communications, fundraising activities and more.

404 MacArthur
