Description

Ability First Ottawa is currently looking for Board Members with the following specialties:
1. HR and Volunteer Director
2. Privacy Director
3. IT Director
We will also be looking for volunteers to either Chair a committee or become a committee member. These will be in the following areas: Fundraising, Grants, PR and Social Media, and Volunteer Coordination. If you are interested in volunteering for Ability First Ottawa but are unsure of the time you are able to commit, consider the following: a Board meeting is held 10 months of the year plus a short AGM. If you have the expertise but can only attend the meetings, that is 2-3 hours a month plus any special projects or reports. Therefore, the commitment would be 3-5 hours a month for both Board Members and Committee members.
Volunteers to drive/deliver food and help with “on the ground” type work, are always in need.
All Volunteers are asked to sign a Confidentiality Agreement as well as a Board Member Position Description, as well as obtaining a Police Record Check for the vulnerable community.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
1. Meet new people. 2. Gain a sense of fulfillment by helping people who are disabled or disadvantaged. 3. Develop transferrable skills to a paid job. 4. Boost mental health well-being by being around a group of volunteers who are dedicated to helping our Community. 5. Broaden your perspective of what is happening in our community and our City.
How will the organization benefit?
Ability First Ottawa needs the help of many volunteers to carry out its mission as follows: "To assist persons with disabilities, and their families, reach their social, educational and employment goals, by offering resource infrastructure and skills development in coordination with our supporting community." The Charity is now in its 7th year and we are ready to grow. To do that effectively, we need to add 3 more Board Members to the current 6. Board Member terms are two years and can be re-appointed.
Volunteer location:
This varies for each volunteer. Board meetings are held by videoconference or in person at Collab Space on Bongard Ave off of Merivale Road.
