Board of Directors
Social Planning Council of Ottawa (SPCO) is currently recruiting volunteers to join our 12-member board of directors. We are a community development organization with a particular focus on building capacity in communities that face systemic barriers to accessing services and opportunities. Our mission is to provide the residents of Ottawa with the means to exercise informed leadership on issues affecting their social and economic well-being.
We are seeking volunteer board members who are passionate about community development and capacity building, and who are willing to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per month to board work and committees or ad hoc working groups. We are particularly looking for people who have a background in fundraising, human resources, membership engagement, social enterprise management, or communications and marketing. How will the organization benefit?
Having you in our board will help four main active areas:
• Building and sharing knowledge through initiatives like the Neighbourhood Equity Index and the Ottawa and Region Data Consortium, as well as providing research and evaluation services.
• Facilitating access to funding by sponsoring and supporting grassroots group applications for government funding.
• Connecting and mobilizing the community by establishing, leading, and participating in various community tables such as the Ottawa Ethnocultural Seniors’ Network.
• Designing and incubating innovative solutions to core social challenges such as youth employment and digital equity through pilot projects, organizational sponsorships, and our youth social enterprises TRAC and Hot Shoe Productions.
